Infinite stars?

I heard this morning that there’s a theory out in the world that since there is not more light than black in the universe, there can not be an infinite number of stars. In fact, there could be an infinite number of stars and space would look just as it does now.

If there are an infinite number of stars in an infinite space, the continuous movement of those stars within that space is just as likely to create an infinite amount of space between them as not, so the way the universe looks to us is not an impossibility.

Now, let’s suppose that the universe is finite. In that case, the proximity of an infinite number of stars to each other would generate gravitational forces so powerful that black holes would become more common than not. If that’s the case, then the way the universe looks to us is not an impossibility.

So, whether or not the universe as a container is infinite or finite, there could be an infinite number of stars and we wouldn’t be able to tell just through observation.
