I’m late to the game on this, but Adam Yauch’s death hit me too hard to come up with anything useful or even honest to add to the discussion earlier. I know what I want to say now, and so here goes.
The Beastie Boys were the proof that Gen-X was immortal. As long as we could hear MCA, Mike-D, and Adrock shouting out beats and rhymes, we knew we would live forever. I’m almost a decade younger than they are. I was 10 years old when I first heard — and wondered what in the hell it could be — ‘Brass Monkey’. I have less place than others to express this, but here it is anyhow.
Yauch lived well, strove forward until the end, and yes, helped prove that our generation is immortal. Thank you Adam. Thank you Beastie Boys. We owe you.
